PREVALANCE OF PARENTAL ALIENATION

Parental Alienation is found globally and is extremely common. The first UK - wide study found 39.2% of separated / divorced parents reported being victims of PABs whose intent was to damage the bond with their child. 26.8% said that these behaviours had resulted in harm to the relationship with their child. These data indicate that hundreds of thousands of families, and over 1 million people in the UK may have experienced parental alienating behaviours during separation. In other words, this is a medical health emergency. This information can be found

Interestingly, these numbers mirror research from North America: one study found that among a sample of separated/divorced parents who were selected to reflect the U.S. population on demographic characteristics, nearly a quarter said at least one of their children was moderately to severely alienated from them. This is equivalent to 22 million adults (6.7% of the general population) and 3.8 million children.

These huge numbers immediately indicate the extent of this problem. To put it in context 3.8 million children is three times greater than the number of children with autism in America. Despite being more common and more dangerous than physical and sexual abuse PA receives almost no publicity. There has been little to no progress in legislating against this vile form of abuse. Rather, the current system helps facilitate it.
